Back country is not a ski technique, it is a different option when you want to go further around snowed sites. Combining cross-country ski and telemark, we have to use the adequate technique at the right time. Back country is not a very well-known style in Argentina, but it is very common in the U.S.A. and in the Nordic countries. Its field is a spot wilder than for the cross-country ski and of course without any mechanical means of transport. Since its technique is a combination of cross-country ski and telemark, normally the ideal place to practice it would be a site not very uneven with very soft slopes. Alto Ñirihuau area is, then the perfect place.
Back country ski-boards have got scales , they do not need seal fur, this makes them lighter. It is not the only option for anybody, but a modality to combine with others. In fact, the backcountry ski boards will be a new toy for skilled people in cross-country ski and much better for those who have practiced cross-country ski. These boards normally have the scales to avoid sliding backwards while going up, that is to say, their function is the same as the seal fur, but when we are going downwards we do not need to take the fur off and putting it back again. Their metallic edges help to grab in the curves when descending. The boots are not so big as the cross-country ski boots, and we will also have telescopic ski-sticks.
The technique is also a combination of both modalities: when we go uphill and in the even land we will use the cross-country ski technique, and when we go downhill the telemark technique. The chosen trail must have, above all, easy slopes. We must not forget that this kind of trail pretends to have a close contact with Nature during hours, rather than to enjoy long descending or getting to the top of mountains. Ski-boards are then, only a tool to move about in the snow in a more comfortable and quicker way, rather than to enjoy a downhill technique.
